The term is used in media is what leaves the viewer wanting to know more and leaves them asking questions. Any good film opening will always have enigma and make the viewer want more.If enigma is not met then the opening of the film could feel like it has no role or feeling!

The conventions of Film openings
-At the begining of nearly every film the prodution logo is shown to tell the audience who produced this film. This logo can differ according to the genre of the film its self;
-This is their normal logo.
-These are their other types of logo.
- Most films also begin with their title;

This again is designed to show the genre of the film.
-The opening scenes usually also show the directors, producer, and main actors names. (these are only a few) again these tend to be in the style of the genre of the film.

Shot Circuit (1986) - Opening
The opening scene for short circuit consists of;
-Close up camera shots and staitonary cameras.
-The starting credits are edited in to fade away.
-The main character introduction is unusual because normally the character is introduced straight away but in this case he's not built yet.
- The music is a scientific Si Fi type of music to set the genre of the film.
-There is no make up in this because its a robot.
-The lighting is relativly dark and only light on the actual objects on screen.
-The setting os properly in a lab somewhere, because the only human in this clip is wearing latex gloves as if to show cleanlinness.
-The props consist of robotic parts and cogs.

The opening scene for this film is unusual in the case of;
Camera- the camera films clips of security screens, on theses are stationary shots of the character's walking down corridors. this gives the audience a sence of non-belonging.
The intro of the characters are unusual because they are not seen properly only on security cameras.
Music- is religious to go with the costume of them being "jews" because it is Jewish music.
Also the introduction of the actors names are put only on the security screens rather then the main one.
